Skala Potamia is a beautiful coastal town full of possibilities for its guests. There are so many things available and excellent services readily waiting to provide for the visitors of Thassos. The village is located about 12 kilometres from Thassos Town (Limenas) which is the main ferry port of the island, and about 30 kilometres from Skala Prinos and its ferry port. As you travel to Skala Potamia from either of the ports you will enjoy a scenic drive through the mountains where you will pass by the traditional mountain village of Panagia, a remarkable place to explore. Same goes for the village of Potamia which lies on the base of Mt. Ipsario, the tallest mountain on Thassos which stands at 1.204 metres high. The cool and refreshing mountain spring water that you can get from both of these villages is so tasty that you will find yourself going back for more with empty water bottles. As you reach Skala Potamia you will notice the large amount of development taking place due to the increasing popularity of the Golden Beach area by European and world tourists alike. Golden Beach spans for 2.5 kilometres and is bordered by Skala Panagia on the North end and Skala Potamia on the South end. The beach is named differently on both ends as well. The northern part is called "Hrisi Ammoudia" (Golden Sand) and the southern part is called Hrisi Akti (Golden Coast). The beach is lined with fine sand and small areas of rock, and the water is shallow and crystal-clear. The currents are calm and waves are normally gentle, thanks to the bay that the beach is protected by. It is fun and safe for everyone and the children especially love it here.
