Thassos

Thassos is the green island, the emerald of the Aegean, with sandy beaches, small bays, beautiful coastline and clear blue water. It is the perfect place for pleasant and quiet vacations. It is also known as the Mythological island of the Sirens.

With the passage of the century in a full green landscape, you will be able to find stones in the ground and memories such as the well-known marble of Thassos, which was used to build magnificent structures throughout the ages including the temple of Ephesus. Over the centuries the olive trees remain as they always have. These trees are important to the people of Thassos.

Thassos is the island of wine and of love. Mmm... the great Thassos wine! Antidotes once said, "Give me a glass of Thassos wine for what ever hurts my heart. This glass of wine, while I drink it, it will take away my pain.". Even the god Dionysos, as he was visiting Thassos island, said that "Thassos wine, it has an apple taste, I believe that is the best of all the wines in the entire world!". After that, Dionysos named it "Dionysiaka". Since then in Greece, through all the ages until even today, we celebrate this day of happiness with wine and dance. We call it "Tyrinis" or the "Carnival Dionysos".

The name of Thassos island was "Herih" in the 4th century B.C., named by an ancient oracle. Years after, according to Greek Mythology, the island got its new name from a man named Thassos, who came to the island in search of his sister, Europe, who was kidnapped by Zeus.
